Alleycat Terms of Service

Last updated: July 6, 2026

The short version

Alleycat is an anonymous, hyperlocal social app for Jaffa. Be useful, be funny, be human. Do not use anonymity as armor for harassment, doxxing, threats, hate, spam, or illegal content.

These Terms are between you and Nightbuild, the app studio that operates Alleycat. Our site is nightbuild.studio. You can reach us at hello@nightbuild.studio.

Using Alleycat

Alleycat is currently a geofenced beta for the Jaffa area. The app may not work, or may show only limited content, outside the launch area.

You must be at least 17 years old to use Alleycat. If you use the app, you confirm that you meet this age requirement and that you can agree to these Terms.

You are responsible for what you do in the app, even though the app does not use public profiles or real names.

Anonymous identity

Alleycat has no accounts. We do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number.

Your device creates a cryptographic keypair. The public key is registered with Alleycat as an anonymous identity. The private key stays on your device. In each post thread, you appear as a per-thread anonymous handle, so the same person can keep continuity inside one thread without carrying a public profile across the whole app.

Do not try to identify, expose, or track other users. "No witch hunts" means no hunting people down, no posting personal details, and no coordinating harassment on or off the app.

Location

Alleycat is local, so it needs your location while you are using the app.

Exact coordinates are not stored. When you create or request nearby content, location is coarsened server-side to an approximately 250 meter grid before storage. Posts are shown based on nearby coarse location and the Jaffa geofence.

Do not spoof, scrape, or automate location requests to map users, infer where someone lives, or defeat the local nature of the app.

Your content

You own the content you post. You give Nightbuild a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, transmit, moderate, and distribute your posts, comments, votes, reports, and related signals as needed to operate, protect, improve, and provide Alleycat.

This license ends when your content is deleted from active systems, except where we need to keep limited records for safety, legal, abuse-prevention, backup, or audit purposes.

You are responsible for making sure you have the right to post what you post. Do not post private information, copyrighted material you cannot use, or anything that violates another person's rights.

Community rules

Report trash when you see it. We actually look.

You may not post, comment, vote, report, block, or otherwise use Alleycat to:

• harass, bully, stalk, shame, or target a person or group;
• dox anyone or share private information, including addresses, phone numbers, workplaces, schools, identifying photos, or location clues meant to expose someone;
• organize "witch hunts" or encourage people to find, confront, or punish someone;
• threaten violence, celebrate violence, or encourage self-harm;
• post hate speech or dehumanizing content based on ethnicity, nationality, religion, race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected traits;
• post sexual content involving minors, exploitative sexual content, or anything that sexualizes a person under 18;
• impersonate someone in order to deceive people;
• spam, scam, manipulate votes, evade rate limits, or flood the app;
• post illegal content or use the app to plan illegal activity;
• upload malware, probe our systems, scrape content, reverse engineer protected parts of the service, or interfere with the app.

We may add or clarify rules as the beta grows, especially where a new type of abuse shows up.

Moderation

Alleycat uses layered moderation.

Content may be rejected by automated on-write filters, including filters for blocked terms, profanity or slurs, phone numbers, and links. Community reports can automatically hide content after multiple distinct reports while it waits for review. Human reviewers may review reported content and other safety signals.

We may remove, hide, downrank, limit, lock, or refuse content. We may permanently block interactions between identities. We may suspend, shadowban, device-ban, or identity-ban users who violate these Terms, create safety risk, evade moderation, or abuse the beta.

We are not required to publish, keep, or explain every moderation decision. We will try to be fair and practical, but safety comes first.

Deleting content and burning identity

You can delete your own posts and comments in the app. Deleted content is tombstoned: the text is replaced with a deleted marker, and the surrounding thread may remain so conversations do not break.

"Burn this identity" wipes the local keys from your device. A fresh anonymous identity is created the next time you use the app. Old content remains in Alleycat unless separately deleted, but it is no longer connected to the device by the old local keys.

Because Alleycat has no email, phone, or account login, losing or burning an identity may mean we cannot prove that a later request came from the same person.

Safety and emergencies

Alleycat is not an emergency service. If someone may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or the relevant authorities.

Local posts may be incomplete, wrong, exaggerated, or jokes that aged badly. Use your judgment before relying on anything you read.

Nightbuild's rights

Nightbuild owns Alleycat, including the app, service, software, designs, brand, names, logos, moderation systems, and other materials we provide. These Terms do not give you ownership of Alleycat or permission to use Nightbuild branding except as necessary to use the app.

We may change, suspend, limit, or stop parts of Alleycat at any time, including beta features, geofence boundaries, ranking, moderation thresholds, and availability.

App Store terms

If you downloaded Alleycat through Apple's App Store, Apple's terms also apply. Apple is not responsible for Alleycat, our content, our moderation, or these Terms. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this section and may enforce it where applicable.

No warranties

Alleycat is provided "as is" and "as available."

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Nightbuild disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, and security.

We do not promise that Alleycat will be uninterrupted, bug-free, safe from every bad actor, or that content will always be accurate or available.

Liability limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Nightbuild will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, service interruption, user content, user conduct, or unauthorized access.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Nightbuild's total liability for any claim related to Alleycat or these Terms is limited to the greater of 100 Israeli new shekels or the amount you paid Nightbuild for Alleycat in the 12 months before the claim. Alleycat is currently free, so this cap usually means 100 Israeli new shekels.

Some laws do not allow certain limits. In that case, the limits apply only as far as the law allows.

Indemnity

If your content, conduct, or violation of these Terms causes a claim, investigation, loss, liability, damage, cost, or expense, you agree to indemnify and hold Nightbuild harmless to the extent allowed by law. This includes reasonable legal fees.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Alleycat changes. We will update the "Last updated" date and, where changes are material, use reasonable ways to tell you in the app or on our site.

If you keep using Alleycat after the updated Terms take effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using Alleycat.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Israel, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in Israel will have jurisdiction over disputes, unless consumer protection law gives you a mandatory right to bring a claim elsewhere.
